BILL TO PROVIDE FOR DIASPORA VOTING PASS SECOND READING

A bill to amend the constitution and provide for diaspora voting passed the House of Representatives’ second reading on Wednesday.

Co-sponsored by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Sodeeq Abdullahi, the bill aims to change the 2022 Electoral Act and give Nigerians living abroad the ability to cast ballots.

The bill was sent to the Committee on Electoral Matters for additional parliamentary action after passing for a second reading in July.

It has been sent to the constitution amendment committee for additional legislative action, nevertheless, following Tuesday’s second reading.
