Former Bayelsa East Senator and media entrepreneur, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and leadership style as the driving force behind his decision.
In a statement posted on his verified X.com account on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce declared, “I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.”
The SilverGroup founder praised Tinubu’s grasp of economic policy, describing him as “a visionary leader” with “a deep understanding of Nigeria’s economic realities.”
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he wrote.
Murray-Bruce, who served in the Senate from 2015 to 2019, expressed confidence that Nigeria would experience “phenomenal growth” under Tinubu’s full eight-year tenure. He added, “I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future.”
He commended the Federal Government’s policy decisions in the financial and energy sectors, particularly the deregulation of the petroleum market and the restructuring of the Central Bank of Nigeria, which he said were restoring investor confidence and strengthening the naira.
“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he stated.
Murray-Bruce also lauded Tinubu’s infrastructural drive, describing it as “unprecedented.” He cited major developments in roads, ports, airports, and housing as evidence of a renewed commitment to national growth.
“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn,” he added.
Back in May 2025, the media executive had publicly praised Tinubu’s initiative to construct the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, calling it “proof of the transformative power of visionary leadership.”
