BAGS OF RICE WORTH N1 BILLION UNCOVERED IN WAREHOUSE IN KANO

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Agency reported that it had discovered a warehouse that had 16,800 misappropriated palliative rice valued at N1 billion on Tuesday.

According to the agency, its Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, oversaw the operation that sealed the facility, which is situated along Ring Road in the Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The agency claims that bags of rice bearing the words “Ramadan Kareem” and an image of President Bola Tinubu were discovered at the warehouse.

After the operation, Rimin-Gado told reporters that the facility had 28 trucks full of rice that had reportedly been diverted by some people for re-bagging, an act he described as illegal and corrupt.

“In a nutshell, this is a clear form of corruption because this is a property meant for the public. Considering the hardship we have today, somebody has the temerity to come and start re-bagging it.

“We recovered a re-bagging machine for repacking and re-bagging rice meant for the public.

“So, we are here based on investigative activities. We are armed with our search warrant, arrest warrant and court order,” Rimin-Gado said.

He said the agency would conduct a thorough investigation with a view to uncovering those behind the theft.

“For now, we have arrested one person and we will make sure we uncover those behind it and forestall these kinds of activities,” he said.
