Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen, has dismissed reports of stepping down as the interim coach of the Super Eagles after the two 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.
He said: “It’s quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct. And the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories,
I’m still very much in charge. I’m the Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment.”
The last time Eguavoen handled the Super Eagles was during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, where he led to team to the round of 16.
This time, he had a great start as he led the Super Eagles to 3-0 victory over Benin in their first game of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers last week.
Then, in his second game on Tuesday, he led the Super Eagles to a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.
After the game in Kigali, reports emerged that Eguavoen had stepped down from his position in the Super Eagles, a report the NFF Technical Director has dismissed.
