APC sweeps all Local Government in Kaduna, Kogi Saturday Election

As states continue to conduct their local government elections, Kaduna and Kogi state conducted theirs during the weekend. This is as a result of the ruling of the Supreme Court on July 11, 2024, which reaffirmed the autonomy of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and prohibited governors from dissolving democratically elected council officials.

As state governors have been mandated to conduct elections to restore democratic governance at the local level, the ruling has restored autonomy to the Local government level.

At least eleven Nigerian states have conducted their Local Government elections to beat the federal government’s October deadline, while others have scheduled theirs for a later date.

In Kogi state, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates as the winners of all the 21 Local government Chairmen and 239 ward councilors in the elections.

Similarly, in Kaduna state, The All Progressives Congress emerged victorious according to the results announced by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission. APC won 23 chairmanship seats and 255 councillorship positions.

Both state governors who participated in the elections commended the affair which they termed peaceful and fair.
