The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally released its schedule for nationwide congresses, culminating in a National Convention in March 2026. The timetable, signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, outlines a comprehensive process to elect new party officials at all levels ahead of the next general election cycle.
The schedule of activities is conducted pursuant to the provisions of Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution. The process began with a membership e-registration exercise, which commenced on December 1, 2025, and will run until January 30, 2026.
The critical path to the National Convention includes the following major activities:
Notice of Congresses: Notices will be issued to state and the Federal Capital Territory chapters on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Ward Congresses: These are scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Appeals will be heard the following day.
Local Government Congresses: These will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2026, with appeals on February 21.
State Congresses: The election of state executives is fixed for Saturday, March 7, 2026. Appeals are scheduled for March 9-11.
Zonal Congresses: Congresses across the six geopolitical zones will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Appeals will follow on March 23.
National Convention: The party’s national convention is scheduled to hold from Wednesday, March 25, to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
This timetable was confirmed following the party’s 15th National Executive Committee(NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Saturday, which was attended by President Bola Tinubu and other top party leaders.
During that meeting, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, officially announced the commencement of the membership e-registration exercise and confirmed the extension of the tenure of the party’s current executives at all levels until March 2026. This provides an orderly transition to the newly elected officials.
The NEC meeting also served as a platform for President Tinubu to address other crucial national and party issues. He firmly restated his administration’s commitment to implementing the Supreme Court judgment on local government financial autonomy, warning governors that failure to comply could lead to executive action to withhold allocations. The President also advocated for the establishment of state police as a necessary step in combating insecurity and called for increased participation of women in elective positions.
The release of this official timetable clarifies previous uncertainty. In October 2025, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had to disown a fake congress schedule that was circulating online, which contained similar dates but was not approved by the party. The current schedule, published via the verified handle of the National Secretary, is the authentic roadmap for the party’s internal elections.
