The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared the ruling party as Nigeria’s “most stable and organised” political platform, citing an end to internal crises and nationwide structural reforms.
He made the assertion on Wednesday during the flag-off of the party’s nationwide electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise in Plateau State.
The launch, conducted jointly with the state’s Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in Dengi and Langtang communities, attracted massive crowds and signalled a major political reconciliation following the 2023 electoral contest between the two leaders.
Chairman Yilwatda outlined a record of achieved stability, noting that numerous court cases at state and national levels had been withdrawn under his leadership. “We have stabilised the party,” he stated during a radio programme in Jos. “Previously, there were numerous court cases… Today, all those cases have been withdrawn.”
He attributed the APC’s cohesion to data-driven decision-making, internal confidence building, and successful conflict resolution mechanisms. The chairman pointed to recent congresses, caucus meetings, and two National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings held without dissent as evidence of “effective governance within the party.”
Highlighting a strategic shift, emphasising foresight and capitalising on opponents’ weaknesses. “Politics is a game of numbers. If I can push you into making a mistake and take advantage of it, I will do it. That is the nature of the game,” he stated.
The party, he said, is deploying this data centric approach to bolster its prospects in upcoming elections in Osun, Ekiti, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He also cited recent consensus-based primaries that avoided litigation as proof of enhanced internal democracy.
Speaking at the registration launch, Yilwatda framed the new digital membership initiative as a tool to deepen inclusiveness and internal democracy. He assured members of a transparent process guaranteeing equal opportunities.
The event served as a stage for a notable political partnership. Yilwatda welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC’s collaborative efforts, declaring their past rivalry as “never personal” but a matter of political choice. “We were never enemies, we only had political differences. Today marks the beginning of a new political consensus anchored on development and inclusion,” Yilwatda said.
