Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and event planner Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe have tied the knot in a spectacular and historic ceremony aboard a moving Lagos–Ibadan train, marking Nigeria’s first-ever train wedding.
The couple transformed one of the train’s coaches into a stunning wedding venue, adorned with elegant floral decorations and featuring bridesmaids, groomsmen, and officiating ministers — all while the train sped along its route.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), in a statement celebrating the milestone, applauded the couple’s creativity, describing the event as a symbol of innovation and romance.
“From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made – the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination,” the NRC wrote on its official social media page.
The unique ceremony has since captured massive attention online, with fans and social media users commending the couple for “thinking outside the box” and redefining what a modern Nigerian wedding could look like.
Celebrities including Stan Nze and Buchi Franklin were among those in attendance, adding glamour and excitement to the joyous occasion.
Observers say the wedding showcased not just creativity but also confidence in Nigeria’s modern railway infrastructure, which continues to expand as part of ongoing efforts to improve intercity transportation.
One guest described the experience as “magical,” adding that “it felt like being part of a moving fairytale the rhythm of the tracks, the laughter, the love, it was unforgettable.”
The newlyweds, who have yet to reveal details of their honeymoon destination, were all smiles as they exchanged vows amid cheers from family, friends, and passengers.
