Former Big Brother Naija housemate Precious Ashiogwu, widely known as Dede, marked her 24th birthday on Wednesday with an extravagant surprise from her devoted fans, who presented her with N30 million in cash alongside luxury items totalling N44.7 million.
The reality television personality received the elaborate birthday package from her fan base, which included a carefully curated collection of high-end presents. Among the gifts was a Bible valued at N87,500, N1 million each for herself and her mother, and premium hair extensions worth N2.35 million.
The fashion-focused presents featured Rene Caovilla heels priced at N3.09 million and Aquazzura heels costing N699,900. Technology gifts included a Dji Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo valued at N1.3 million and Apple AirPods worth N430,000.
Luxury fragrances formed part of the collection, with Jimmy Choo Rose Passion perfume worth N234,859 and Parfums De Marly Delina Exclusif perfume valued at N435,000. Wellness treats comprised a private Pilates session at Oma The Spa worth N200,000 and spa vouchers for both Dede and her mother, each valued at N352,800.
The fans also provided practical gifts, including a N300,000 grocery voucher from Delis Supermarket and a N902,500 shopping voucher for customised outfits from Ewongho. Additional items included scarves from Elan Scarves worth N130,000, a blush set from Beauty by AD, and activewear from Berbiebeauty and MnM Luxury worth N244,700 and N103,500 respectively.
Smaller but thoughtful gifts rounded out the package, including a N54,000 journal, assorted jewellery pieces, a heart-themed birthday cake worth N63,000, and a personalised Kudoboard. The combined value of all presents reached N44,720,980.
The lavish gesture sparked considerable debate on social media platforms, with reactions ranging from admiration to criticism. Some users questioned the spending priorities of fans willing to contribute such substantial amounts.
A user identified as @purple_raiin wrote: “People that couldn’t vote all of a sudden raised N30m. Dede, I love you but this zobo is really cold.”
Another social media user, @everythingalluringlingerie, commented: “Most of these fans would not even contribute to help a family member, but they do it for a complete stranger.”
The discussion continued with @stella_acs_ asking: “Is there really hardship in this country?” whilst @fateemah_ayah observed: “No single wow on her face for N30m and all these luxury items, we hope this is not staged.”
User @simi_darl expressed surprise at the total amount, writing: “You mean people contributed N44m?”
However, Dede’s supporters defended their actions, stating the gifts represented their appreciation for her journey and achievements following her appearance on the reality programme.
