Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has revealed that his administration inherited a dire financial situation from the previous government, describing it as an empty treasury. The governor made this statement while distributing permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 4,315 former BESDA teachers on Thursday.
Yusuf asserted that, under his leadership, the state had experienced a significant financial turnaround. Through prudent financial management, the state now holds billions of naira in its accounts, reversing the dire financial situation. The governor blamed his predecessor for reckless financial practices, including the employment of over 128 tax consultants who allegedly failed to generate any substantial results for the state.
“This government has blocked financial leakages and ensured that public funds are channeled into projects that benefit the people of Kano, not political elites,” said Yusuf in a statement shared by the Director General, Media and Publicity of the State’s Government House, Sanusi Tofa.
He also cited improvements in the state’s educational performance, including the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) and WASSCE results, as evidence of the positive impact of his administration’s investments in education.
Governor Yusuf further remarked, “If the previous administration believes in its legacy, it should come forward and show us tangible results. Instead, they left the state deeply indebted, with funds drained to benefit a few individuals rather than the people.”
The governor emphasized his commitment to investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure while ensuring transparency and accountability, even in the face of political opposition. He reiterated that his administration would continue its focus on improving the welfare of Kano’s citizens, regardless of external criticism.
