Galadima Questions Tinubu’s Administration’s Readiness for a Credible 2027 Election

Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has expressed grave doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s ability to conduct free and fair elections in 2027. During an appearance on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” programme, Galadima accused the government of using underhanded tactics to destabilise opposition parties, which he argues could hinder electoral competition in the upcoming elections.

Galadima’s comments come at a time when political tensions are rising, with opposition parties increasingly vocal about their concerns regarding the government’s approach to the electoral process. He stated bluntly, “This government is not ready to organise a free and fair election. From their antics and how they are destabilising parties, that suggests they don’t want an opposition at all for the election.”

The NNPP chieftain warned that the government’s actions could backfire, potentially leading to a loss in the 2027 elections. “I want to assure them that there will be opposition, and if they don’t change their style of governance, they will lose this election,” Galadima asserted.

His criticism extended to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he accused of lacking the authority to enforce electoral laws effectively. Galadima pointed to the inability of INEC to curb premature campaigning, particularly by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Look at the politicking that is going on right now, just two years into this administration, when INEC doesn’t even have the muscle and the guts to call politicians to order because people in government are the ones that started it,” he lamented.

Galadima’s remarks highlight the growing unease about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral processes, especially with the general elections just a few years away. He urged citizens and all stakeholders to remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the transparency and integrity of the democratic process.
