Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record transfer fee of £130 million.
Reports from The Athletic and The Telegraph confirmed on Monday that the Swedish striker will undergo medicals before finalising a six-year deal at Anfield.
The 25-year-old forward hit 23 goals in the Premier League last season, finishing just behind Mohamed Salah in the scoring chart. His form powered Newcastle into Champions League qualification.
A summer-long transfer saga ended with Isak training separately from the rest of Eddie Howe’s squad as he pushed for the move. Newcastle’s capture of German international Nick Woltemade for a reported £69 million was seen as a clear step towards sanctioning the sale.
A Newcastle official, who spoke after news of the deal broke, said, “We thank Alexander for his service to the club. He has been outstanding for us, but football moves on. We now look forward to building with new players.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is expected to unveil Isak later this week. Supporters are already buzzing about the move, with one fan at Anfield telling Observers Times, “This is the kind of signing that shows Liverpool are serious about staying at the top.”
The £130 million fee eclipses the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, underlining the scale of Liverpool’s investment.
