Peter Obi Confirms 2027 Presidential Bid

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has declared his intention to run again in 2027, this time for a single four-year term. The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday in Abuja by his media spokesman, Ibrahim Umar.

Addressing his supporters at home and abroad, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s progress. He confirmed being part of coalition talks, Obi emphasized that any alliance must be driven by a shared vision to rescue Nigeria.

“If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, reviving our economy, making our industries productive, or putting food on Nigerian tables… Count me out,” Obi said, adding, “Nigeria is currently at war. We need to do something about it.”

On the state of the Labour Party, Obi disclosed that he and other key figures are working to secure recognition from INEC for the Nenadi Usman-led faction of the party, in line with a Supreme Court ruling.

Looking ahead to 2027, Obi promised a new approach: “We will do things differently in 2027. We will follow a non-violent approach and insist that the right thing will be done before the result announcement in Abuja. Our votes in 2027 will count, and we will ensure they count.
