OBI CALLS OUT TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION OVER INCREASED DEBT PROFILE, SAYS NIGERIA NOW A CRIME SCENE

Former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has called out the administration of President Bola Tinubu over increasing debt profile in the country.

In a media chat on Thursday, Obi lamented that in the last two years Nigeria had borrowed more money than the administrations of Former President Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari combined.

He said: “The federal government has within two years borrowed more money than the administrations of President Umaru Yar’Adua, President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari combined.

“Today, Nigeria’s public debt is estimated to be close to 188 trillion. Nigerians were informed that the debt and the borrowing were to fund critical areas of development which are education, health and pulling people out of poverty.

He complained that there have been no improvement in those areas where the monies were borrowed for.

“Still, no significant improvement in education, in health care, in poverty alleviation, which we all know is the most critical measure of national development.

“Corruption is at its worst in this administration. Nigeria has now become a crime scene.”

Obi’s criticism comes after President Tinubu addressed the National Assembly highlighting the achievements of the government in the last two years and his efforts to uphold democracy.
