Sokoto State’s Ministry of Health has issued a warning to residents, urging them to remain vigilant amid rising cases of Meningitis in several local government areas of the state. The warning, issued on Tuesday, comes after laboratory tests confirmed that many samples collected from suspected cases were positive for Meningitis.
Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, the state’s Commissioner for Health, emphasized the importance of increased vigilance and awareness as part of efforts to curb the spread of the disease. He revealed that the ministry has ramped up surveillance, case management, and public health interventions to tackle the situation.
In the statement, Dr. Abubakar urged the public to take immediate action if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, or any other unusual signs. He stressed the importance of seeking medical attention promptly at the nearest health facility.
To prevent further spread, the Commissioner also recommended maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding crowded places, and ensuring proper ventilation in both homes and public spaces.
Dr. Abubakar further encouraged citizens to report suspected cases of Meningitis or any unusual illness to their local hospitals. In response to the situation, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has ensured that all health facilities in the state are stocked with the necessary medications to address the outbreak.
