NAHCON Appoints New Secretary Ahead of 2025 Hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has made significant strides in its preparations for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage by appointing Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali as the new Secretary of the Commission.

Ali’s appointment follows the voluntary resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Rabi’u Kontagora, after which Alidu Shutti temporarily assumed the role in an acting capacity. Ali was selected after meeting the qualifications outlined by NAHCON, as announced on its website and other media platforms. The appointment was officially approved by the Commission’s 5th Board during its meeting on February 26, 2025, in accordance with Section 8 of the NAHCON Establishment Act of 2006.

A key aspect of Ali’s appointment is that it ensures representation for the North East region on the NAHCON Board. His previous experience as the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Pilgrims Board further strengthens his qualifications for the position.

Born in Yerwa, Borno State, Ali brings a wealth of experience and academic credentials to his new role. He holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Administration, a Diploma in Computer Application and Internet, and an Executive Life Manager Certificate. Ali has also studied at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano, and the University College for Islamic Call in Tripoli, Libya, among others.

His extensive career spans several decades, with key roles such as Director at the Centre for Kanuri Ajami and Qur’ani Studies at Borno State University, Chairman of the Caretaker Management Committee at the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, and Deputy Provost at Muhammad Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies.

As the new Secretary of NAHCON, Ali will be responsible for managing the Commission’s records, conducting official correspondences, and serving as Secretary for all Commission meetings. Additionally, he will oversee the reporting of NAHCON’s activities to the relevant authorities, maintain a register of licensed Hajj operators, facilitate the publication of the Commission’s regulations, and coordinate the Commission’s standards of performance.

With his vast experience and strong educational background, Dr. Ali’s appointment is expected to bring enhanced value to the Commission’s operations as it continues preparations for the 2025 Hajj. His tenure officially begins the day he assumes office.
