Speed Darlington Vows to Continue “Baby Oil” Content After Release from Detention

Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has vowed to continue producing his provocative “baby oil” content, following his release from detention on January 21, 2025. Darlington, who was arrested in November 2024 for allegedly cyberstalking Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy, spoke out in a now-viral video, declaring that he has no fear of imprisonment and will not be silenced.

In his video, Darlington recounted his time in detention, saying, “Thank God. I’m still alive. I was never hungry, I have gained weight. I am the only person I know that went to prison and gained weight.” Despite the serious nature of the charges he faced, Darlington emphasized that being in jail was manageable, especially with money, claiming that “there is a bed and three square meals.” He also hinted at his resilience and refusal to back down, stating, “If you like, send me to Kuje prison, I will become a ruler.”

Darlington’s troubles began in late 2024, when he released a controversial diss track titled Baby Oil, which targeted both Burna Boy and American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. In the song, Darlington insinuated a questionable relationship between Burna Boy and Diddy, referencing Diddy’s involvement in the Grammy-winning album Twice As Tall, which Burna Boy released in 2020. Darlington questioned how Burna Boy won the prestigous award, given Diddy’s alleged involvement in the project, which sparked online debates and ultimately led to the singer’s arrest on charges of cyberstalking.

Despite the legal challenges and public scrutiny, Darlington expressed no remorse and vowed to keep releasing his infamous “baby oil” content—albeit without directly mentioning specific names, as advised by his legal team. “Marshal Abubakar, my lead counsel, said I should not mention anybody by name, do not talk about the court but can talk about the police,” Darlington explained. “So if I say long face, you already know who I’m referring to.”

The singer’s lawyer, Stan Alieke, has announced that he will no longer represent Darlington following the legal turmoil. The decision marks another dramatic shift in the ongoing saga surrounding the controversial artist.

As Darlington prepares to continue his unique brand of content, fans and critics alike are left to wonder what will come next in this unfolding saga. The singer’s defiant stance suggests that the drama is far from over, and he may be setting the stage for even more controversy in the coming months.
