Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South, announced on Wednesday that the administration of President Bola Tinubu plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle Nigeria’s security issues in 2025.
As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Ibrahim revealed that ₦4.91 trillion has been earmarked for defense and security in Tinubu’s proposed 2025 budget, making security a top priority for the government.
In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator described 2025 as a year filled with challenges for criminals. The government intends to develop AI-powered applications to track and combat bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, using technology to strengthen security operations.
“AI will be deployed to assist security personnel in making life uncomfortable for criminals,” Ibrahim said.
₦49.7tn ‘Restoration Budget’ Focuses on Security
President Tinubu recently presented a ₦49.7 trillion 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly, with significant allocations to security and defense (₦4.91 trillion), infrastructure (₦4.06 trillion), health (₦2.4 trillion), and education (₦3.5 trillion).
Ibrahim expressed optimism that the ₦5 trillion security allocation would enhance oil production by fostering a safer environment, ultimately boosting national revenue.
Improved Security Outlook
Despite ongoing security challenges, Senator Ibrahim commended the government’s progress, asserting that no city or local government is currently under Boko Haram control.
“The security index has improved under President Tinubu. Whether you like him or not, the military and police have performed excellently. No town or state is flying the Boko Haram flag today,” Ibrahim added.
