The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, have addressed the recent meeting they held in Adamawa State.
The meeting sparked speculation after images and a video surfaced online showing Obi visiting Atiku at his residence in Adamawa. Rumors quickly circulated that the two were discussing collaboration for the 2027 presidential election, but both parties have now dismissed these claims.
Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, explained that Obi’s visit was related to his role as the keynote speaker at the 20th anniversary of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) and its 16th Founder’s Day, events founded by Atiku. Ibe emphasized that the meeting was not politically motivated, stating, “Atiku invited him to breakfast, and then they attended the program together. Politics was not involved.”
Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, also reiterated that the meeting was purely about the university event and had no political agenda, adding, “People will always assume things, but there was no political undertone.”
