NSIB to investigate Jigawa Fuel Inferno

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has disclosed the commencement of investigation into the cause of the unfortunate explosion that occured in Jigawa state, killing over 150 persons and injuring many others.

A tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) en route Kano to Nguru in Yobe state had lost control, crashed, spilled it contents and exploded at around 12am on Wednesday morning at the Majia town, Taura Local Government Area of the state.

The commencement of the investigation was made known in a statement by Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB.

The Federal Government agency said that in line with its mandate of investigating all modes of transportation serious incidents and accidents, it has sent its investigators to the scene of the accident for investigation purposes.

According to Oladeji, the team would assess the circumstances surrounding the crash and the explosion to identify causal factors and provide safety recommendations aimed at preventing future occurrences.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this devastating accident. The NSIB is committed to uncovering the cause of the explosion and ensuring that safety lessons are learned,” she said.

She emphasized that further updates on the investigation would be communicated to the public as it’s team gathers and analyses evidence from the scene.

She also reminded the citizens of the grave danger posed by scooping fuel from tanker accidents and has urged all to avoid such scenes.
