Date set for Diddy’s case, to begin trial in May 2025

The Federal trial of the United States rapper and music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs under charges of sex trafficking has been scheduled for 5th May 2025 by a Judge in New York on Thursday.

Diddy will however remain in the custody of the authorities till then, according to Judge Arun Subramanian.

Diddy was arrested on September 16 on three criminal counts that he allegedly sexually abused women and coerced them into drug-fueled sex parties using threats and violence.

Judge Subramanian was assigned to the case after the previous Judge recused himself on account of his past associations with the participating lawyers.

US magistrate judge Robyn Tarnofsky ordered that Diddy be jailed while awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to the 14-page federal indictment against him.

Combs’ lawyers have unsuccessfully tried to get him freed on bail as two separate judges denied him bail twice, with one arguing that Combs was a “serious flight risk.”

At the recent hearing, Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ lawyer, expressed concerns about what he termed improper leaks by federal agents about the case while asking the Judge to exclude a video of the accused assaulting former girlfriend Cassie in 2016.

Prosecutor Emily Johnson has however called the claim baseless as none of the leaks came from the prosecution.

The 54-year-old rap star faces a sentence of 15 years up to life in prison if convicted.
