Minister of Youth assures Youth inclusion in Nigeria’s governance at UNGA

The Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, has assured Nigerians that the Tinubu led administration is committed to implementing the 30 percent youth inclusion in the governance of the country.

She made this known during the Mastercard Foundation side event at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) themed “Empowering women, Transforming Africa”.

She proudly announced President Tinubu’s historic approval of 30% youth inclusion in government with equal gender representation.

The President had on Tuesday in his Independence day speech disclosed a 30-day youth inclusivity programme where suggestions from youths on education, security, economy and other aspects would be considered and implemented.

The event which was held in partnership with the African Leadership Academy Diaspora Initiative (ALADI) aimed to bring international discourse on women’s empowerment back to the African continent. It was even streamed live in New York and Nairobi.

Dr Ibrahim was invited alongside other high profiled women including Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS and UN Under Secretary General, and Deniece Laurent Mantey, Head of Africa at the White House and Executive Director of the President of the United States (POTUS) Africa Diaspora Advisory Council.

She also highlighted the key flagship programs initiated under her leadership including the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) and the National Youth Skills Programme (NYSP) whose aim is to create real opportunities for youth development across Nigeria.

She advocated for further collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation to help expand these initiatives and more to reach young people across Africa.

Dr Ibrahim reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to setting standards for youth empowerment while ensuring young women are central to Africa’s transformation.
