President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, which was communicated to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in a formal letter on Tuesday, marks a significant shift in the leadership of the country’s finance ministry.If confirmed, Oyedele will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. The move represents the third portfolio for Uzoka-Anite within the current administration.Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist and public policy expert, joins the Federal Executive Council from his recent role as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In that capacity, he was the architect behind the recent overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.Hailing from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, Oyedele brings a robust private sector background to the role. He spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. His academic credentials include a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, and the Harvard Kennedy School.In addition to his private sector experience, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.The announcement was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
