Rice Subsidy: FG withdraws sale of 50kg rice at 40,000 to public servants

The Federal Government of Nigeria through the ministry of special duties and inter governmental affairs passed an internal circular dated 2nd of august withdrawing the internal circular on sale of subsidized rice to public servants.

The circular which was signed by the director, human resources management, Aderonke A. Jaiyesimi, gave no further explanation as to why the government was suspending the promised sale which was earlier announced on 1st August 2024 through the same office.

Remember that the government had promised to subsidize food products, suspend tax on certain foods in order to reduce hardship as well as prevent the #endbadgovernance protest.

The suspension of this exercise without giving any explanation will affect the trust of the people in the current administration. Is the government coming up with better ways of addressing food inflation and hunger? or was this a rouse to stop people from protesting?
