Yobe Police Apprehend Man for Alleged Drugging, Rape of Teenager

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Aliyu Yarima of Potiskum LGA, for the alleged defilement of a 16-year-old girl in Babbangida town, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The arrest, executed by operatives from the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters, followed a distress report concerning the minor.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, detailed that preliminary investigations indicate the suspect lured the victim on January 16, 2026, and administered a soft drink laced with hard drugs, rendering her unconscious.

“He then took her to his residence, where he allegedly committed the act of rape. The victim reportedly sustained serious internal injuries, which delayed her reporting the incident,” SP Abdulkarim stated.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital in Babbangida, where a medical examination formally confirmed the sexual assault.

SP Abdulkarim affirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon their conclusion. He reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding vulnerable persons and urged the public to report cases of sexual abuse and other criminal activities promptly to the nearest police station.
