Kano Government Takes Over Prosecution of Housewife, Six Children Murder Case

The Kano State Government has assumed full prosecution of the murder case involving a housewife and six children who were killed at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, a move prompted by widespread public outcry following the brutal incident.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, disclosed the takeover on Monday during a press briefing in Kano, stating that the decision was made on the direct instruction of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to ensure justice is delivered for the victims.

Maude described the killings, which took place last week in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, as a deeply disturbing crime that constitutes a grave violation of the law and an affront to the principles of humanity.

“This heinous and inhuman act is a grave affront to humanity and the rule of law. On the directive of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, my office will take over the prosecution of this case to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done,” Maude stated during the briefing.

The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves across the ancient commercial city and beyond, reportedly occurred on Saturday morning when assailants broke into the residence of the victims. According to preliminary findings from security agencies, the woman attempted to raise an alarm and reach out to relatives for help, but the attackers carried out the killings before assistance could arrive.

Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that some of the children had returned home from school shortly before the attack occurred. It was also gathered that one of the victims was not the biological child of the slain woman, though the exact relationship has not been publicly clarified by authorities.

The matter was initially reported at the Dorayi Divisional Police Office before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more comprehensive investigation. The transfer, standard procedure in cases of such gravity, enabled detectives to conduct forensic examinations and pursue leads that subsequently led to the arrest of suspects now in custody.

The Attorney General commended the Kano State Police Command for what he described as a swift and professional response that culminated in the apprehension of those allegedly responsible for the killings. He praised the collaboration between local divisional officers and the SCID team, noting that the arrests demonstrated effective policing and investigative capacity.

Maude assured residents of Kano State that the government would ensure transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to due process throughout the prosecution. He emphasised that the Ministry of Justice would diligently pursue the case with the seriousness it deserves, leaving no room for impunity or procedural lapses.

“The government is committed to ensuring that anyone found culpable in this matter faces the full weight of the law. We will not tolerate any act that undermines the sanctity of life and the security of our citizens,” the Attorney General added.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while continuing to support security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid ongoing investigations. Maude stressed that community cooperation remains critical to preventing similar tragedies and strengthening public safety across the state.

The Attorney General further assured that the state government would keep the public informed as the case progresses through the judicial system, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency in the handling of criminal matters.
