Bayelsa West Senator and former Governor, Seriake Dickson, has dismissed circulating reports that he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that he remains committed to his party.
Speaking through his media aide, Ajiri Daniels, Dickson clarified on Friday, “I remain a proud member of the PDP. Any decision about my political future will follow wide consultation with friends and political allies.”
Dickson’s statement comes amid widespread speculation following the death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in December 2025, which led the senator to temporarily step back from political activities. “The senator is presently in mourning following the death of the Deputy Governor. As a mark of respect, he has stepped back from political engagements and has been receiving condolence visits from friends, political leaders, allies, and well-wishers from across the country,” the statement added.
Known for his vocal opposition in the Senate, Dickson has consistently challenged policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He notably staged a walkout during the debate on the emergency rule in Rivers State in March 2025, describing the measure as undemocratic.
During an October 2025 interview, Dickson reaffirmed that even if he were to leave the PDP, he would never join the APC. He assured supporters that after the completion of burial rites for the late Deputy Governor, he would resume political engagements and consult widely with allies before making any formal decision.
The senator also urged the public and party faithful to disregard claims of his alleged defection. “While noting that he is keenly following developments in the political space, Senator Dickson assured that after the burial, he will consult widely with friends and political allies across the country before taking any decision, which will be formally announced,” the statement said.
