FG Unveils 2026 “Budget of Consolidation,” Aims to Cement Reform Gains, Accelerate Prosperity – Idris

The Federal Government has positioned the 2026 Appropriation Bill as the cornerstone for solidifying the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and accelerating nationwide prosperity, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced.

Dubbed the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” the fiscal plan is designed to build upon early signs of economic progress, including expanding business activity, rising investor confidence, moderating inflation, and strengthening external reserves.

Minister Idris stated that the budget is a strategic tool to “end long-standing economic stagnation and build a stable future.” He outlined its dual focus: reinforcing the policy foundations laid since 2023 and directly impacting citizens’ livelihoods through targeted interventions.

The Minister highlighted several flagship programs central to the budget’s agenda including Education, Accelerating Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative to reduce transportation costs, Jubilee Fellows Programme, and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.

On infrastructure, Idris referenced transformative projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, and the Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline. He also noted ongoing investments in rail network expansion.

Regarding security, the Minister pointed to enhanced recruitment, training, and equipment for the armed forces and police, citing recent successful rescue operations in Kebbi and Niger States as evidence of improved operational effectiveness.

“The 2026 budget is more than an accounting document; it is a covenant for a more resilient and prosperous Nigeria. We call on every Nigerian to be a partner in this journey of consolidation,” Idris concluded.

The budget proposal is now before the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
