Nigerian Army Deals Major Blow to Criminal Network, Recovers Sophisticated Weapons in Taraba

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have delivered a significant blow to terrorist and bandit activities in Nigeria’s Northeast with a major arms recovery in Taraba State, a region long plagued by Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

In a decisive, intelligence-led operation, forces recovered a large cache of sophisticated weapons and ammunition, disrupting a key criminal supply line.

The successful raid, which took place in Amadu village within Takum Local Government Area, was initiated after troops received actionable intelligence on the movement of associates linked to a notorious criminal kingpin.

Media Information Officer for Operation Whirl Stroke, Lieutenant Ahmed Zubairu, detailed the operation. “Following the intelligence, a suspect was intercepted and interrogated,” he stated. “Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily led our troops to a concealed armoury belonging to the criminal network.”

The recovery of this significant weapons cache represents a critical setback for criminal elements exploiting the region’s security challenges. By seizing these arms, Operation Whirl Stroke has directly hindered the operational capacity of groups responsible for violence that has destabilized communities for over a decade.

The operation underscores the military’s ongoing commitment to leveraging intelligence and conducting targeted missions to dismantle criminal infrastructure and restore safety to the Northeast.
