The political atmosphere in Osun State turned heated on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of mismanaging state funds and imposing what it called “satanic” tuition fees on students of state-owned universities.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC alleged that the Adeleke administration had received over ₦850 billion from federal allocations between November 2022 and September 2025 but had “little or nothing to show for it.”
The party further claimed that between July and September 2025 alone, Osun State received about ₦124 billion, averaging ₦41 billion monthly.
“Given the huge allocation accrued to the state in just a few months, no youth of Osun deserves to be subjected to the hardship the administration has imposed on them,” Lawal stated.
He alleged that despite these allocations, students of the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) and Osun State University (UNIOSUN) were being charged exorbitant fees, with UNILESA students reportedly paying up to ₦1.5 million per session and ₦800,000 for on-campus accommodation. He added that students at UNIOSUN paid between ₦600,000 and ₦1 million for accommodation alone.
“Just yesterday, students of the University of Ilesa were on the streets protesting the satanic school and accommodation fees that Governor Adeleke and his puppets have imposed on them,” the statement read.
The APC also accused the governor of neglecting pensioners, saying that the state government had failed to settle ₦6 billion in gratuity arrears for 2025 despite spending 26 per cent of state revenue on capital projects.
However, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, swiftly dismissed the allegations, describing them as “fake news from a party set for another defeat in 2026.”
Rasheed said, “The claim that Governor Adeleke has received ₦1 trillion in allocations is a devilish fabrication and mischievous propaganda. This is a desperate attempt by a failed party to discredit a performing administration.”
He insisted that the Adeleke-led government had prudently managed the state’s resources and achieved significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and welfare.
“Only an anti-people party will claim not to see the almost 322 kilometres of roads across the state, the 200 renovated health centres, over 100 rehabilitated schools, ongoing dualisation projects, upgraded waterworks, and other developmental projects,” Rasheed said.
He further stated that Adeleke had reduced Osun’s debt stock by 40 per cent, cleared outstanding workers’ salaries and pensions, enrolled more than 30,000 pensioners in the state’s health insurance scheme, and had not borrowed a kobo since assuming office.
According to him, the governor had also forsworn security votes, ensuring that all security expenditures undergo proper approval processes.
Rasheed accused the previous APC government of “seizing local government funds” and forcing the current administration to bear local government financial burdens to keep workers’ salaries paid.
The Osun APC and PDP have frequently exchanged accusations over governance and financial management.
