14 Suspects in Killing of Kano-Bound Travelers Transferred to Abuja for Interrogation

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has confirmed that 14 suspects arrested in connection with the killing of Kano-bound travelers in Uromi Local Government Area have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.

The suspects were detained following a mob attack on a group of hunters traveling to Kano for Sallah celebrations last Thursday. Speaking during a condolence visit to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in Abuja on Monday, Okpebholo strongly condemned the attack and assured Nigerians that those responsible would face justice.

Describing the incident as tragic, the governor revealed that his administration has set up a committee to support the families of the deceased. “It’s unfortunate that this happened in our state. We are here to let you and others know that we are not happy,” he stated.

Okpebholo added that President Bola Tinubu has taken a firm stance on the matter, while the Inspector-General of Police has assigned the Deputy Inspector-General of Criminal Investigation Department (DIG CID) to lead the probe. “So far, 14 suspects have been arrested and taken to Abuja for further interrogation,” he said.

In response, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin stressed the need for justice, emphasizing that those responsible must be held accountable. “We cannot undo what has been done, but Nigerians are expecting to see these perpetrators arrested and prosecuted. You are doing well in that direction,” he remarked.

Barau also commended the Edo State Government’s decision to assist the families of the victims and urged authorities to ensure such acts of violence never happen again. “This is a barbaric action, and we must send a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated,” he added.

The transfer of the suspects to Abuja marks a critical step in the investigation, as authorities work to ensure justice is served.
